Amherst College (Emily Dickinson Museum)
Log Number: IGSM-256180-OMS-24
The Emily Dickenson Museum will conceptualize, pilot, and design interpretive enhancements to the Homestead, Emily Dickinson’s home and the site of her creative output. Informed by its recent Comprehensive Interpretation Plan, the museum will expand its narrative to be more inclusive and welcoming for all visitors. Enhancements will include vignettes exploring the poet’s daily life, poetry through immersive media, subtle soundscapes, and projection mapping. Museum staff will contract with an exhibition and multi-media design firm and accessibility specialist to produce full schematic designs and written narratives for interpretive elements. Improving accessibility and highlighting stories of domestic labor at the Homestead will benefit all visitors to the site and encourage new audiences including students, LGBTQIA+, and contemporary creatives, artists, and writers seeking inspiration.
