Kona Historical Society
Log Number: IGSM-256141-OMS-24
The Kona Historical Society will organize, inventory, and rehouse its D. Uchida Farm Archive collection. The collection contains archival materials, objects, and textiles associated with the society’s Kona Coffee Living History Farm site; a historic farm homesteaded by Japanese immigrants. Informed by a Preservation Assistance Grant (PAG), the society’s collections manager will provide staff and volunteer training in collections handling and procedures and oversee the organization, inventory, and rehousing of the collection. The project will result in greater preservation and intellectual control over the collection, enabling expanded interpretation of the site. The society will be able to better serve its community, visitors, and researchers by providing access to this collection that documents coffee farming and the Japanese immigrant experience in Kona, Hawaiʻi.
