Blowing Rock Art & History Museum

The Blowing Rock Art and History Museum will bring art enrichment to area seniors through a series of weaving and fiber art classes and workshops, culminating in an exhibition. The museum will expand upon its partnership with the Watauga County Project on Aging and area fiber artists to offer 48 classes and multi-day workshops at the museum and two Watauga County Senior Centers. Museum staff will create an exhibition and digital catalog featuring works created by the seniors as well as the artists and teachers. The museum will offer senior-led tours for students and provide a paid internship to assist with data collection, evaluation, and preparation of the catalog. The program will establish a local model of using art as an intervention tool to decrease loneliness and strengthen the cognitive abilities of seniors and will benefit local seniors and artists, students, and visitors.
