Lower Sioux Indian Community (Lower Sioux Agency)

The Cansa'yapi Cultural Department at the Lower Sioux Community Council will increase historic knowledge of Native American and Dakota cultural traditions through educational events. The department is a repository for Dakota cultural artifacts, including stone tools, projectile points, and historic cultural materials such as moccasins, pipe bags, and historic photos. To increase access to cultural history and artifacts, the department will hire a part-time staff member to plan and host educational events and hands-on activities for the Lower Sioux and surrounding communities. Primary beneficiaries of the project will include children, families, elders, returnees, and relatives.
