Western Museum of Mining & Industry

The Western Museum of Mining and Industry will design and install a new permanent, interactive exhibition on miners to expand and diversify its current interpretation. The exhibition “Who Were Miners?” will explore stories of the Latino, Native American, Asian, Black, Cornish, and Italian men and women who participated in the western mining districts from 1849 to the present. Staff and interns have conducted preliminary research and identified storylines. As a next step, the museum will contract with an exhibition and interpretive design/planning firm to design and install the exhibition. The project will result in a more inclusive and engaging narrative, benefiting museum visitors, and in particular visitors from the represented communities.
