Diaspora Vibe Cultural Arts Incubator

Diaspora Vibe Cultural Arts Incubator will advance shared knowledge around maternal figure hood through an exhibition of works by Katrina Coombs and in partnership with the Harvey B. Gantt Center for African American Arts and Culture. This exhibition will address the need in exhibiting more fiber artists and textile art, which is often related to a “hobby craft,” and will bring awareness to this medium, while elevating the work and labor of women artists. Project activities will include exhibit content development, coordinating with the artist on selecting and shipping artworks, and developing public programs with the Gantt Center. The results will include an increased awareness of the work of Afro-Diasporic and Caribbean artists, and a greater understanding and future scholarship on the African Diaspora, the Caribbean, and Latin America.
