The Museum of Boulder will improve the management and care of its collections by implementing a pilot program to conduct an inventory and analysis of its costume collection. The museum will hire a collections assistant to work with its collections manager to photograph and evaluate items and update digital records, with the assistance of student interns. The project will address 15 percent of the 11,000 artifacts in the collection, which spans 150 years of Boulder’s dress history. The museum will engage a textile conservator to repair or preserve 10 artifacts that rank highly as historically significant and are most in need of conservation The pilot project will provide foundational knowledge about the costume collection and create a blueprint for a future preservation study of the full collection, leading to its increased access and use for staff, researchers, and other institutions.
