Log Number: IGSM-251897-OMS-22

The Chinese Culture Center of San Francisco will implement “Generation Chinatown,” a place-based, out-of-school, youth arts fellowship program intended to deepen participants’ creative voices and build civic leadership skills. The museum will partner with local service organizations to convene a cohort of 7–10 multiracial high school fellows and pair them with artist mentors. They will participate in workshops, produce public artworks, investigate topics related to place and local community, engage with community members, and build awareness around issues of race and equity. The project will address the immediate need for more culturally relevant youth programming, as well as the economic and xenophobic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on the Chinatown neighborhood. Fellows will learn in dialogue with one another as they explore how artists can add to the cultural resilience of Chinatown and help reshape narratives about the community.
