Log Number: IGSM-251848-OMS-22

The Anthropology Museum at California State University, San Bernardino will develop, fabricate, and install an exhibit focusing on Afro-Latinx folk and fine art to convey the existence, resistance, and creativity of Afro-descendant populations in Mexico and San Bernardino and Riverside counties. The museum will partner with Afro-Latinx community groups including Casa Coyolillo, Universidad Veracruzana Intercultural, and Somos Negros de la Costa to select, recruit, interview, and commission art from local Afro-Latinx residents; plan the exhibit; develop complementary educational materials; and conduct exhibit evaluations. The one-year exhibit installation will include a set of “conversation cards” for discussing Afro-Latinx topics with friends and family, while supporting K-12 dual immersion curricula for students in San Bernardino. The project team will replicate exhibition content online for broader accessibility. The project is designed to contribute toward combatting anti-Blackness through increased exposure and uplift of Afro-Latinx communities.
