Log Number: IGSM-251489-OMS-22
History Fort Lauderdale will partner with the Old Dillard Foundation and living members of African American pioneer families to create an exhibit chronicling the history of the South Florida Black community from 1890 to the present day. Project activities will include holding town hall meetings to request donations of artifacts for the exhibit and to gather community input to develop the exhibit storyline. The museum will also sponsor photographic collections sites to digitize Black families’ photos for their records and to request permission to use them in the exhibit. The museum will fabricate panels, identify artifacts, and create a virtual platform for the exhibit. The project will provide more complete representation and recognition of the accomplishments of the Black community for Broward County Schools students as well as regional, national, and international visitors to the museum.
