Los Angeles Poverty Department (Skid Row History Museum and Archive)

Log Number: IGSM-249269-OMS-21

The Skid Row History Museum and Archive (SRHMA) will create the multi-disciplinary artwork series “State of Crisis/Community of Resilience.” The goal of this work is to educate audiences—scholars, journalists, and the public, including Skid Row residents, that—despite the prevailing perception—Skid Row has a rich history of grassroots civic engagement and innovative community-generated solutions to social problems. Led by a community curator, a Skid Row leader with vast personal knowledge of the neighborhood, and a team of artistic collaborators, scholars and resources, including SRHMA’s archive, the project will produce an SRHMA exhibition, activated by theatrical and musical performances, and public conversations.
