Friends of the Texas Historical Commission

The Sam Bell Maxey House State Historic Site will conserve one of its signature pieces, a 19th-century fan with hand-painted images on both sides. The fan was given to Commander Sam Bell Maxey during the United States-Mexican War by a member of Empress Carlotta's court. Upon completion of the conservation work, the Maxey House will display the fan and share with its visitors the details of the treatment and the role of the museum as a steward for its collections.
