The South Dakota Art Museum will organize, re-house, and provide secure access to the nationally significant archives relating to four collections under its care. Included are papers, photographs, journals, and related materials of South Dakota artist and illustrator Harvey Dunn; the world-renowned linen embroidery house, Marghab Linens, Inc.; and 20th-century Bureau of Indian Affairs staffer Claude R. Whitlock. In addition, the papers and objects relating to the Seiferle Collection of pottery, weavings, basketry, jewelry, and sculpture created by Southwestern Native American artists and collected between 1950 and 1970 will be addressed. This project will secure the long-term stability of these important resources and will ensure they can be made accessible to the public and researchers through online finding aids, exhibits, and educational programs.
