Denver Museum of Nature and Science will improve environmental conditions for 8,900 fossil leaf specimens by rehousing them in high-quality closed storage cabinets. The specimens were recovered from more than 1,000 localities dating to the Late Mesozoic and Early Cenozoic eras throughout the Rocky Mountain region. In addition, conservators will examine 800 type specimens to document their baseline physical and chemical stability, complete condition reports, and photograph them. This comprehensive project will address the long-term preservation needs for these specimens and increase access for research and public outreach.
