The Springfield Library and Museums Association will restore seven Tiffany-stained glass windows located on the ground level building façade of the 1895 George Walter Vincent Smith Art Museum. Over the course of two years and in two groupings, a specialist conservator will photograph, remove, transport, and then disassemble the windows. This will be followed by cleaning, repairing, re-leading, weatherproofing, resetting, and reinstalling the windows in their original locations. Museum staff will develop public programming about the windows, their importance within the museum and as examples of Tiffany-designed glass. Visitors will be able to learn about the restoration through docent-led gallery walks or a printed brochure designed for self-guided experiences.
