Walters Art Museum

Log Number: IC-01-11-0266-11

The Walters Art Museum will launch a two-year project to carry out a detailed condition survey of 162 works of Southeast Asian art recently given to the museum. The museum will also create a plan of action to care for the objects and safely relocate the majority of them into accessible, conservation-quality storage environments. Digital images of the objects will be added to the museum's Web site. The works include manuscripts, works on paper, paintings, ceramics, furniture, armor, sculpture, and textiles primarily of 18th- to 20th-century Thai origin. To provide visitors a chance to learn about preservation activities, conservators will examine and survey small works of art in a "conservation window" on weekend afternoons.
