Carnegie Institute (Carnegie Museum of Natural History)

Log Number: IC-01-11-0213-11

The Carnegie Museum of Natural History will develop an automated Web-based environmental monitoring program to provide a basis for improving environmental conditions in its landmark building as well as its off-site storage, laboratories, and other collections spaces. The system will provide data needed to determine what must be done to meet target environmental conditions for specific collection types and will inform the exploration of "green" technologies for use in its mechanical systems. Conservation and public programs staff will work together to develop an innovative line of training for docents focused on environmental risks to collections, thereby helping to connect back-of-the-house activities with the public face of the museum. Project details and results will be posted on the Web and presented through professional meetings to be used as a model for other facilities facing similar issues.
