Mingei International Museum will increase its capacity to provide connection and inspiration to students and seniors by creating a sustainable distance engagement experience. Building on the reimagining that has enabled the museum to continue serving the community during its closure and in the early months of the pandemic, the project will provide hands-on artmaking opportunities through a combination of tangible materials and digital platforms. The museum will transfer two existing programs-Family Sunday and Third Grade arts instruction-to a distance model and launch a new program with two nonprofit partners to reach isolated seniors. An estimated 100 families, 300 students, and 200 seniors will participate in monthly hands-on projects. The project will build on initial assessments completed during the museum's first virtual program offerings during the pandemic.
