Freedom's Frontier National Heritage Area will hire educators and historians to research, write, and secure permission to use images for five tours of Kansas and Missouri historical sites within the heritage area’s 41 counties for inclusion in a mobile application. Tours will cover topics at Native American and African American historic sites, and at historical sites associated with Order 11--the First Kansas Colored Infantry, and the Underground Railroad. The tours will tell the diverse history of the area, provide a resource for teachers and homeschoolers, and promote heritage tourism. Through this project, the Freedom’s Frontier National Heritage Area will generate content for the app to help educate the public on the history of the region. Provided in a digital format informed by physically distant learning during the COVID-19 pandemic, the app will be free to download.
