Log Number: ARPML-250738-OMLS-22

Marquette University Raynor Memorial Libraries and Cristo Rey Jesuit High School in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, will partner on a pilot for a work-based digital literacy program to address gaps in educational access for Hispanic and Latino high school students that have widened due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Students from Cristo Rey will work in the library’s digital scholarship lab one day each week, where they will identify a challenge created or amplified by COVID-19 and develop a digital project to address that challenge. Students will learn about modes of digital communication, digital citizenship, how to critically evaluate digital content, their role as creators of information, and introductory software and coding. At the end of the pilot program, Marquette will create a shareable, peer-reviewed best practices model for use by academic libraries seeking to partner with community groups on digital literacy initiatives.
