Log Number: ARPML-250689-OMLS-22

The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts in Richmond will facilitate a 10-month project to expand its museum education internship program following the COVID-19 crisis. The program will provide training and professional development for college students considering careers in museum education, covering topics such as evaluation, studio instruction, community outreach, and public programming. Building upon its successful pilot program in conservation, the museum will provide 400 hours of hands-on training to ten 3rd- or 4th-year undergraduate students through 10-week paid internships in the museum’s education department. The program will focus on integrating culturally responsive teaching and narratives to encourage greater diversity within the field. As the country emerges from the COVID-19 pandemic, the museum’s initiative will help develop the next generation of museum educators.
