The New Children’s Museum in San Diego, California, will reimagine and reintroduce its school visits program for pre-K/elementary students and Head Start groups. Although virtual tours were a temporary pivot during the COVID-19 pandemic, positive reviews and an ongoing demand for remote options led the museum to plan new videos and activities that support the youngest learners who were most affected by learning loss during the pandemic. The New Children’s Museum School Visit Experience will build on its inquiry-based, on-site tours that explore the museum’s art installations and include hands-on art making. Updates will include virtual tours, English/Spanish activity booklets, and art kits and digital art packets for schools, which proved hugely successful when piloted during the pandemic. The museum will expand programming for pre-K audiences with new online and on-site options and will provide free access for students from Title I schools and Head Start programs.
