Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts will upgrade its online systems to better engage digitally with students, educators, and the public; promote access to its collection of more than 15,000 works of American art spanning from the eighteenth century to today; and build upon its 67 percent growth in online users during the COVID-19 pandemic. Because the museum can serve a far greater portion of society through its digital collection than its physical collection, it is committed to creating an equitable environment where in-person and virtual experiences are given equal weight. Allowing audiences to have high-quality experiences with art regardless of their ability to physically visit the museum will help achieve this goal. More robust and stable access to the museum’s collection online is key to supporting this new hybrid programming model and fostering in-depth conversations about art.
