City of Las Cruces (Thomas Branigan Memorial Library)

The Thomas Branigan Memorial Library in Las Cruces, New Mexico, will implement a community adult learning initiative. The library will provide a comprehensive suite of free learning opportunities, including language courses, basic education, and civics test services for community members in Las Cruces and Doña Ana County. To better serve Spanish-speaking patrons, the library will provide conversation courses for its staff. The library also will partner with rural libraries in surrounding areas to increase access to programming for farmworker and immigrant communities. Finally, the library will work with local nonprofit organizations to ensure underserved populations are aware of these programs. COVID-19 disproportionately affected the project’s target populations through adverse health impacts, higher unemployment, and greater need for benefits and resources, and the library’s activities are designed to address these disparities.
