Floyd County Historical Society

The Floyd County Historical Society in Charles City, Iowa, will improve its collection stewardship by organizing storage rooms and properly cataloguing its artifacts. Many objects in the museum’s collection were taken in as donations without proper documentation and then placed in a storage area without supporting paperwork to even identify its location. This lack of prior inventory control has affected the museum’s programming for the community, which became very evident during the pandemic. Museum staff will assess the condition of each item in the collection and then catalogue them and place them in museum-grade, environmentally safe storage units. As a final step, staff will enter information needed to retrieve artifacts for future exhibits in a database using an updated cataloguing software.
