Pueblo, Colorado, is a town at a crossroads. This diverse community of 165,000 people upholds a working-class tradition that dates back to the days of the steel mill. Pueblo City-County Library District (PCCLD) aims to provide the best possible public library and services for its residents, and in the last five years, Pueblo citizens have become increasingly committed to their public library. PCCLD focuses a majority of its attention on literacy, emphasizing the whole family's literacy journey. Early childhood literacy initiatives are robust, supplemented with lessons given to parents and guardians to underscore the importance of reading to children and encouraging a lifelong love for reading. To reach the 50 percent of the population that is Hispanic, PCCLD established the Hispanic Resource Center, providing services, activities, and free resources in both English and Spanish that illustrate Hispanic culture and history so important to the region.
