Brian Allen, of Vermont, is the art critic for National Review and contributor to New Criterion, City Journal, The Art Newspaper, Antiques, The Wall Street Journal, Claremont Review of Books, and other art and culture journals. He has served as the Director of the Museum Division of the New-York Historical Society, Director of the Addison Gallery of American Art at Andover, and Curator of American Art and Director of Collections and Exhibitions at the Clark Institute in Williamstown, Massachusetts. Allen received a B.A. in government and history from Wesleyan University, an M.A. from Williams College, and a Ph.D. from Yale University.
