Donate to the Institute of Museum and Library Services

The Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) is an independent federal agency that fosters leadership, innovation, and a lifetime of learning by supporting museums and libraries throughout the country.  To enhance its programs, IMLS is authorized by Congress to solicit and accept tax deductible contributions from individuals and organizations.

IMLS programs benefit from the generosity of donors, including foundations, corporations, and private individuals. Your support can further enhance our programs and activities and help to make sure that vital museum and library services are available to communities and individuals throughout the United States.

Donations to IMLS are generally tax deductible for federal income tax purposes.  20 U.S.C. § 9106; 26 U.S.C. § 170(c)(1).  Such donations are deductible as charitable contributions for payment made in the taxable year.  26 U.S.C. § 170(a)(1).  However, IMLS does not provide advice to donors on the tax implications of donations, and donors are encouraged to consult with their individual tax advisors.
