Kahuli Leo Lea
Log Number: NH-256757-OLS-24
Kāhuli Leo Leʻa aims to catalyze aloha ʻāina through the education, composition, and presentation of mele (Hawaiian song and poetry) and other cultural practices. "I Leʻa ka Hula i ka Hoʻopaʻa: Linguistic Ties of Mele and Hula" aims to preserve and perpetuate the linguistic connection and methodological framework to mele and hula (protocol/dance) as a knowledge management system. The project will capture the unique and interdependent relationship between the Hawaiian cultural practices of mele and hula through recordings of four mele and hula master practitioners, as well as educational resources. Recordings and resources will be available on the Kāhuli Leo Leʻa website to promote education and understanding and for learners of all ages to engage with the cultural practices of mele and hula, presented together as an integrated cultural practice.
