Papahana Kuaola
Log Number: NH-256751-OLS-24
Papahana Kuaola is an aloha ʻāina-based education organization connecting the past to a sustainable future. Project staff will enhance the program and services through the development of Moomoo, a digital literacy project piecing together family histories for 100 participants in the Hawaiian community by employing a culture-based approach to digital literacy and information services to access digital repositories. Participants will engage in virtual learning sessions and in-person visits to various repositories and receive private research coaching. The intended results of the 12-month mentor and training program are for participants to receive a Certificate of Apprenticeship as “Haumana Ii'' or beginning level genealogist. The knowledge and skills gained will enable participants to perpetuate the traditional practice of āewa (possessing of family lineage) and presenting one’s genealogy.
