The ALU LIKE Spectrum Technology Center’s (Center) Hale o Ka`a`ike (the house that transfers knowledge) project will enhance the digital literacy skills of Nanakuli residents on the island of O’ahu, Hawaii. The Center provides vital public access to computers, including loaner laptops and on-site WIFI access. The grant will support staff salaries to expand the Center’s hours to evenings and weekends to better serve the community’s needs. Funds will also support workshops on how to use a computer or smartphone, accessing public assistance, employment, and college resources, genealogy, digital storytelling, and other participant requested learning experiences. Additionally, funds will support honorariums to eight students who participate in Hale o Ka`a`ike’s activities. The project will benefit the residents of Nanakuli, with an emphasis on residents 18 to 64 years old and those over age 65, who comprise a significant percentage of Nanakuli’s population.
