The Leiholu project will purposefully link patrons and families with library and community resources that build their sense of place, community, and self. Through three community libraries, the project will increase access to library and community resources to underserved and rural communities with large populations of indigent families. The libraries will provide increased hours of operation and workshops highlighting individuals' history of place. They will also increase the availability of place-based materials focused on the Native Hawaiian culture through the Hawaiian Electronic Library, called "Ulikau." The activities aim to not only foster a love of learning, but also provide patrons the building blocks for resiliency as they work their way toward economic, social, educational and cultural self-sufficiency.
