The Winterthur Museum will carry out a two-year project to assess and research objects in storage and on display in the 175 rooms of the Henry Francis du Pont house with the objective of quantifying future needs for accessible storage. The museum will hire two full-time curatorial assistants to work with curators, conservators, registrars, and interpretive staff to execute the targeted collection assessment which will identify objects that can be moved into future accessible storage. The assessment will help restore the integrity of the installations created by the institution's founder and improve interpretation for the public. The project team will identify, prioritize, and undertake background research on potential objects for deaccessioning to help in space-planning for accessible storage. The project will benefit the museum by improving interpretation for visitors, enhancing the intellectual control of the collection, and adding important documentation to its collection database.
