Grant Awards Announcement: FY 13 Laura Bush 21st Century Librarian Program
Grants will help underserved communities, increase diversity among librarian recruits,
and train in emerging fields of cloud computing and cybersecurity
Washington, DC—The Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) announced 21 Laura Bush 21st Century Librarian (LB21) grants totaling $6,100,806. Recipients are matching these awards with $3,370,822 in non-federal funds. IMLS received 84 applications for the program this year, requesting a total of $29,146,953.
"As the information needs of Americans have evolved, so has the work of American libraries and librarians," said IMLS Director Susan Hildreth. "The Laura Bush 21st Century Librarian Program helps address these needs by supporting the professional development and education of a new generation of librarians."
This year, the program funds a variety projects, including those that train people for careers in digital stewardship and data librarianship, offer professional development for librarians serving Native Americans and people with disabilities, plan curricula for cybersecurity for science information, and research best practices for preserving and curating crowd-sourced content.
