The University of Mississippi Museum Oxford, MS On April 13 the University of Mississippi Museum launched the "Let's Move! Family Activity Day." Participants started at the end of the museum lot and made their way down the Bailey's Woods Trail (a 3/5-mile trail linking the museum to Rowan Oak, William Faulkner's historic home) for a hike full of fun activities. There was a healthy trail mix station, trail bingo featuring images from the museum's collection, outdoor canvases to paint, and activities facilitated by education interns. Other surprises included a bridge that turned to lava, climbing stairs to help learn the alphabet, and instructions like "walk like a penguin over this bridge."

Eighty-one people attended the event and almost everyone- children, parents, and grandparents- walked the entire trail back and forth (1.2 miles) over changes in elevation. The children received a gold medal and discount on summer camp at the end of the trail. The response from families was tremendous; parents and children were so engaged all the way down the trail as the woods came to life for them through art. Many of the families had never been down the trail and were asking when the next Let's Move! Family Activity Day would be. It was wonderful to see so many people having fun, learning about the museum's resources, and getting exercise all at the same time!   Submit a Success Story If you wish to submit success stories, please email a 150-word article with photos to letsmovemuseumsandgardens@imls.gov.
